The song was confirmed as the next single in an Instagram post dated July 6th, 2018. On March 17, 2018, Puth announced the song title in an interview on Beats 1. On April 23, 2018, Charlie Puth teased the song on Instagram with a cryptic comment under his photo, saying “and now… this is the way I am. ” On May 11, 2018, Puth talked about the record on the Zach Sang Show and what it meant for him both personally and artistically, saying When See You Again was out and I was trying to figure out who I was musically and I was putting all these songs out and they didn’t really sound like each other and I was trying to be someone that I wasn’t.
